Floating Vegetable Market

If you are an early bird in Kashmir, you can catch a glimpse of the "floating vegetable market" on Dal Lake. It starts very early in the morning, typically at 5 AM, and any vegetables that remain unsold are later taken to the street markets. These floating markets are one of a kind in India and very similar to markets in Bangkok and Vietnam.

Vegetables such as potato, pumpkin, cucumber etc are grown in the shallower region of the lake. Unique vegetables include Lotus Root and colorful flowers and bulbs such as Himalayan poppy seeds.
